Description
ップレットの組成は前記逃げ面に存在するドロップレットの組成に比べてWの含有比率が低いことが望ましい。すなわち、ドロップレット7の組成は、すくい面3の表面上に形成されるドロップレット7aの組成が逃げ面4の表面上に存在するドロップレット7bの組成に比べてNbの含有比率が高く、かつWの含有比率が低いことが望ましい。これによって、すくい面3上に存在するドロップレット7aはNbの含有比率が高いので硬度および耐酸化性が高くて、切屑がドロップレット7aに接触してもドロップレット7aがすぐに摩滅することなく長期間にわたって存在する結果、切屑とすくい面3の被覆層6とがベタ当たりせず、また、切削油が被覆層6と切屑との隙間に入り込むので切屑の潤滑性がよくなることから、すくい面における被覆層6の温度上昇が抑制され、クレータ摩耗が小さくなる。また、逃げ面4上に存在するドロップレット7bはWの含有比率が高いので破壊靭性値が高く、逃げ面4にかかる衝撃をドロップレット7bが吸収して被覆層6にかかる衝撃を和らげることができる結果、逃げ面4における被覆層6の耐欠損性を向上させることができる。
なお、金属MはW、Si、Mo、Ta、Hf、Cr、Zr、Yから選ばれる1種以上が好適に使用できる。中でも、金属としてWを添加することが望ましいが、金属Wの組成比率は0.2以下であると被覆層6の耐摩耗性が高い。金属Wの組成比率(f)の特に望ましい範囲は0.01≦f≦0.1である。
次に、本発明の切削工具の製造方法について説明する。
まず、工具形状の基体を従来公知の方法を用いて作製する。次に、基体の表面に、被覆層を成膜する。被覆層の成膜方法として、イオンプレーティング法やスパッタリング法等の物理蒸着(PVD)法が好適に適応可能である。成膜方法の一例についての詳細について説明すると、被覆層をイオンプレーティング法で作製する場合には、金属チタン(Ti)、金属アルミニウム(Al)、金属ニオブ(Nb)、および所定の金属M(ただし、MはSi、W、Mo、Ta、Hf、Cr、ZrおよびYから選ばれる少なくとも1種以上)をそれぞれ独立に含有する金属ターゲット、複合化した合金ターゲットまたは焼結体ターゲットを用い、チャンバの側壁面位置にセットする。

被削材 :炭素鋼(S45C)
切削速度:130m/分
送り :0.05mm/rev
切り込み:1.2mm
切削状態:湿式
評価方法:500個加工後の被削材の加工面を接触式表面粗さ計(東京精密社製SURFCOM)にて測定し、算術平均粗さRaを加工面粗度として表記した。また、工具寿命まで加工できた加工数を確認し、そのときの摩耗形態を確認した。
切削方法:外径旋削加工
被削材 :炭素鋼(S45C)
切削速度:100m/分
送り :0.1mm/rev
切り込み:1.0mm
切削状態:湿式
評価方法:200分切削後のすくい面クレータ摩耗の有無、逃げ面におけるチッピングの有無を光学顕微鏡にて測定した。また、被削材の面粗度は接触式表面粗さ計(東京精密社製SURFCOM)にてRaを測定し評価した。表中の加工数は工具寿命に至るまでに加工できた被削材の個数を示す。

Claims (8)
- すくい面と逃げ面との交差稜線に切刃を有して、基体の表面にTiaAlbNbdMe(C1−xNx)(ただし、MはSi、W、Mo、Ta、Hf、Cr、ZrおよびYから選ばれる少なくとも1種、0.3≦a≦0.8、0≦b≦0.6、0.01≦d≦0.25、0≦e≦0.25、a+b+d+e=1、0≦x≦1)からなる被覆層を被覆し、該被覆層の表面にはドロップレットが存在するとともに、前記すくい面に存在する前記ドロップレットの平均組成が前記逃げ面に存在する前記ドロップレットの平均組成に比べてNbの含有比率が高い切削工具。
- 前記すくい面に存在するドロップレットの数が前記逃げ面に存在するドロップレットの数よりも多い請求項1記載の切削工具。
- 前記すくい面における前記被覆層中のNbの含有比率が前記逃げ面における前記被覆層中のNbの含有比率よりも多い請求項1または2記載の切削工具。
- 前記被覆層が、TiaAlbNbdWfMe(C1−xNx)(ただし、MはSi、Mo、Ta、Hf、Cr、ZrおよびYから選ばれる少なくとも1種、0.35≦a≦0.55、0.3≦b≦0.6、0.01≦d≦0.2、0≦e≦0.25、0<f≦0.2、a+b+d+e+f=1、0≦x≦1)からなり、前記すくい面に存在するドロップレットの組成は前記逃げ面に存在するドロップレットの組成に比べてWの含有比率が低い請求項1乃至3のいずれか記載の切削工具。
- 前記すくい面に存在するドロップレットのAlの含有比率AlDRと前記被覆層の前記すくい面におけるAlの含有比率AlbRとの比が1.03≦AlDR/AlbR≦1.25であり、前記逃げ面に存在するドロップレットのTiの平均含有比率TiDFと前記被覆層の前記逃げ面におけるTiの含有比率TiaFとの比が1.03≦TiDF/TiaF≦1.2である請求項4記載の切削工具。
- 前記被覆層のすくい面における算術平均粗さをRaRとし、前記被覆層の逃げ面における算術平均粗さをRaFとしたとき、0.07μm≦RaR≦0.3μmおよび0.05μm≦RaF≦0.15μmであるとともに、前記被覆層のすくい面における最大高さをRzR とし、前記被覆層の逃げ面における最大高さをRzFとしたとき、0.3μm≦RzR≦0.9μmおよび0.15μm≦RzF≦0.6μmである請求項1乃至5のいずれか記載の切削工具。
- 前記すくい面における前記被覆層のTiとAlとの総量に対するNbおよびWの比率をそれぞれNbR、WR、前記逃げ面における前記被覆層のTiとAlとの総量に対するNbおよびWの比率をそれぞれNbF、WFとしたとき、(NbR+WR)/(NbF+WF)が0.9〜1.1である請求項4乃至6のいずれか記載の切削工具。
- 前記被覆層が、Tia1Alb1Nbd1Me1(C1−x1Nx1)(ただし0≦a1≦1、0≦b1≦0.8、0<d1≦0.2、0≦e1≦0.2、0≦x1≦1)で表される第1被覆層と、Tia2Alb2Nbd2Me2(C1−x2Nx2)(ただし0≦a2≦1、0≦b2≦0.8、0≦d2≦0.2、0≦e2≦0.2、0≦x2≦1、a1=a2かつb1=b2かつd1=d2かつe1=e2は除く。)で表される第2被覆層とが10層以上繰り返し交互に積層された構成からなる請求項1乃至7のいずれか記載の切削工具。
