Description

本発明は、例えば、オーディオ番組、テレビジョン番組、又は、他のコンテンツ用のリコメンダといった推薦システムに係り、より具体的には、例えば、地理的な場所、その場所の特徴、又は、天候といった環境的な特徴に基づいて推薦を生成する方法及び装置に係る。
[発明の背景]
消費者市場は、予め記録された又は送信されたオーディオコンテンツを再生する多数の電子装置を提供する。例えば、携帯ラジオは、ユーザが、実質的にどの場所にいても、送信されたオーディオ信号を受信することを可能にする。一般的に、所与の無線局から送信される無線信号は、その局の送信アンテナの特定範囲内で割当てられた周波数で受信され得る。ユーザが送信アンテナから離れるに従い、受信信号の品質は次第に下がり、最終的には、ユーザは、新しい無線局を選択しなければならなくなる。ユーザが、なじみのない無線市場に入った場合、一般的に、ユーザは、周波数スペクトルを走査して、別の好適な無線局を選択しなければならない。ユーザにとってなじみのある地理的地域においてでも、ＶＨＦ及びＦＭ周波数範囲にて無線局に用いられる周波数の数が増加しているので、所望の無線局を選択することが益々困難となっている。
ユーザが新しい無線局を選択するのを支援するよう多数の技術が提示又は提案されている。欧州放送連盟（ＥＢＵ）からの無線データシステム（ＲＤＳ）規格は、例えば、各無線信号に関連付けられる番組タイプ（ＰＴＹ）フィールドを含み、それにより、対応する番組タイプを特定する。現在では、選択された無線局で送信される番組タイプの情報を表示する多くの無線受信器が利用可能である。従って、ユーザが「トークラジオ」を楽しむ場合、ユーザは、「トークラジオ」の番組タイプを有する局を選択することができる。例えば、番組タイプコードを用いて、好適な受信器及びレコーダが、所望のタイプの番組のみに応答するよう予め設定されることを可能にすることができる。
このような別の無線局を選択する技術は、ユーザが既に聴いていた番組と同一の番組タイプの新しい無線局を選択することはできるが、その選択は、ユーザの現在の場所、又は、他の環境的な要因に影響を受けない。例えば、所与の地理的地域においては、ユーザは、ユーザの地元での番組タイプの好みとは異なる番組タイプの無線局が気に入る場合もあり得る。
従って、ユーザの嗜好と、場所、その場所の特徴、又は、天候といった環境的な要因に基づいて推薦を形成する方法及び装置が必要である。更に、様々な環境条件下におけるユーザの嗜好を学習する方法及び装置が必要である。更に、例えば、同一の又は類似する地理的地域といった類似する環境条件下において示されたユーザの嗜好に基づいて、別の無線局又は別のアイテムを選択する方法及び装置が必要である。
［発明の概要］
一般的に、ユーザの嗜好と、１つ以上の環境要因に基づいて１つ以上のアイテムに対する推薦を生成する推薦システムを開示する。開示されるリコメンダは、環境データ収集システムを用いて、様々な環境条件下におけるユーザの嗜好を学習する。観察される環境条件には、例えば、場所、その場所の特徴、天候、又は、動作の速度といったユーザの動作の特徴が含まれる。
ユーザの行動は、様々な環境条件下におけるユーザの嗜好を得るために、モニタリングされる。各肯定的又は否定的な行動例（例えば、傾聴した無線局又は傾聴しなかった無線局）に対し、選択されたアイテムの多数の属性が、背景の環境条件と共にユーザプロファイル内で分類される。開示されるリコメンダは、後に、例えば、別の無線局といったアイテムを推薦する際に、ユーザプロファイルを取ってきて、かつ、現在の環境条件を評価する。例えば、同じ又は類似する地理的地域、又は、類似する天候条件といった類似する環境条件下で示されたユーザの嗜好に基づいて、各利用可能なアイテムに対し、推薦スコアを生成することができる。
本発明のより完全なる理解、及び、本発明の更なる特徴及び利点は、以下の詳細な説明及び図面を参照することにより得られるであろう。
図１は、本発明のオーディオリコメンダ１００を示す。本発明は、ここでは、オーディオコンテンツ推薦のコンテキストで説明するが、本発明は、例えば、傾聴履歴、観賞履歴、又は、購入履歴といったユーザの行動の評価に基づいた任意の自動生成推薦に適用可能である。本発明は、現在の場所、又は、その場所の特徴に基づいて、ユーザがなじみのない地域での番組選択を所望し得る、自動車といった移動環境に、特に適用可能である。
図１に示すように、オーディオリコメンダ１００は、オーディオ番組データベース２００内の各番組を評価して、ユーザが関心を持つオーディオ番組を示す一つ以上の番組推薦１５０を生成する。本発明の１つの特徴によると、オーディオリコメンダ１００は、ユーザの嗜好と、場所、その場所の特徴、又は、天候といった環境要因とに基づいて推薦を作成する。従って、本発明の別の特徴によると、オーディオリコメンダ１００は、環境データ収集システム１４０を用いて様々な環境条件下におけるユーザの嗜好を学習する。
例えば、オーディオリコメンダ１００は、所与のユーザは、ニューオリンズではジャズ音楽を好み、都会の環境を離れる時（又は、動作が進んでは止まる渋滞に特徴付けられる場合）には、頻繁に交通情報を流す無線局を好み、また、晴れていて５５度以上の天候のときには、「トップ４０」の番組タイプを有する無線局を好むことを学習し得る。様々な環境条件下におけるユーザの嗜好は、一度、得られると、以下に図３と共に説明する１つ以上のユーザプロファイル３６０内に格納される。
観察される環境条件には、例えば、場所、その場所の特徴、天候、又は、動作の速さといった動作の特徴が含まれ得る。場所は、例えば、全地球測位システム（ＧＰＳ）１４２、又は、エンハンスド携帯電話９１１（Ｅ９１１）システム（図示せず）から得られる。ＧＰＳ１４２により示される現在の場所は、地図又は他の参照に指標をつけるよう用いられ、それにより、その場所が都会か又は田舎か、その場所の平均的な天候、また、その場所の市内地への近接性といった場所の特徴が得られる。動作の特徴は、例えば、スピードメータからの動作の速度といったように、動作感知システム１４４から得ることが可能である。天候は、例えば、天候データ収集システム１４８から得ることが可能である。天候データ収集システム１４８は、例えば、天候データベース（ＧＰＳシステム１４２によって識別される場所により指標が付けられる）へのリンク、又は、外部の気温を監視する外部温度計として具現化され得る。
図４に関連して以下に説明するように、別の無線局又は別のアイテムを推薦するときに、オーディオリコメンダ１００は、ユーザプロファイル３６０を検索し、また、現在の環境条件を評価する。その後、オーディオリコメンダ１００は、例えば、同一の又は類似する地理的地域、又は、類似する天候条件下といった類似する環境条件下でユーザにより示された嗜好に基づいて、推薦スコアを生成する。このようにして、オーディオリコメンダ１００は、ユーザが関心を示す可能性のある無線局を識別する１つ以上の番組推薦１５０を生成する。
図１に示すように、オーディオリコメンダ１００は、オーディオ番組データベース２００、１つ以上の視聴者プロファイル３６０、及び、環境に影響を受けるオーディオ推薦処理４００を含む。それぞれ、図２乃至４に関連して以下に更に説明する。一般的に、オーディオ番組データベース２００は、この例示的な実施例では、各無線局の情報を記録する。図３Ｃに示す１つの例示的な視聴者プロファイル３６０は、図３Ａ及び図３Ｂに示す例示的な視聴履歴３００に基づいて、決定樹リコメンダによって生成される。別の実施では、明示的な視聴者プロファイルを用い得る。明示的な視聴者プロファイルは、例えば、所与の視聴者が各番組特徴を見たか否かを示す「嫌い」と「好き」の間の様々な関心レベルにマッピングされる数値尺度での各番組特性及び環境条件に対する格付けを与える視聴者調査から生成され得る。環境に影響を受けるオーディオ推薦処理４００は、ユーザの嗜好と、場所、その場所の特徴、又は、天候といった環境要因に基づいて、番組推薦１５０を生成する。
オーディオリコメンダ１００は、パーソナルコンピュータ又はワークステーションといった任意の演算装置として具現化され、中央処理演算ユニット（ＣＰＵ）といったプロセッサ１２０と、ＲＡＭ及び／又はＲＯＭといったメモリ１１０を含む。更に、オーディオリコメンダ１００は、カリフォルニア州サニーベイルのティボ社から市販されるティボ（登録商標）システムといった入手可能なテレビジョン番組リコメンダ、又は、「Ｍｅｔｈｏｄ ａｎｄ Ａｐｐｒａｔｕｓ ｆｏｒ Ｒｅｃｏｍｍｅｎｄｉｎｇ Ｔｅｌｅｖｉｓｉｏｎ Ｐｒｏｇｒａｍｍｉｎｇ Ｕｓｉｎｇ Ｄｅｃｉｓｉｏｎ Ｔｒｅｅｓ」なる名称で、１９９９年１２月１７日に出願された米国特許出願番号０９／４６６，４０６（代理人整理番号７００７７２）と、「Ｂａｙｅｓｉａｎ ＴＶ Ｓｈｏｗ Ｒｅｃｏｍｍｅｎｄｅｒ」なる名称で、２０００年２月４日に出願された米国特許出願番号０９／４９８，２７１（代理人整理番号７００６９０）と、「Ｔｈｒｅｅ Ｗａｙ Ｍｅｄｉａ Ｒｅｃｏｍｍｅｎｄａｔｉｏｎ Ｍｅｔｈｏｄ ａｎｄ Ｓｙｓｔｅｍ」なる名称で、２０００年７月２７日に出願された米国特許出願番号０９／６２７，１３９（代理人整理番号７００９１３）に記載されるテレビジョン番組リコメンダ、又は、これらの任意の組合せとして具現化され、本発明の特徴及び機能を実行するよう本願にて修正され得る。更なる変形では、オーディオリコメンダ１００は、例えば、カーラジオに組込まれ得る特殊用途向け集積回路（ＡＳＩＣ）として具現化され得る。
図２は、利用可能な各無線局の情報を記録する図１のオーディオ番組データベース２００からのサンプルテーブルである。図２に示すように、オーディオ番組データベース２００は、例えばレコード２０５乃至２２０といった複数のレコードを含み、それぞれ所与の無線局番組に関連付けられる。各無線局番組に対し、番組データベース２００は、番組に関連付けられる日時をフィールド２４０に、番組に関連付けられる無線局をフィールド２４５に示す。更に、無線局に関連付けられる地理的地域が、フィールド２４８に特定される。各番組に対するタイトル、番組タイプ、及び、出演者は、それぞれ、フィールド２５０、２５５、及び、２７０に識別される。番組の継続時間及び説明といった更なる周知の特徴（図示せず）も、オーディオ番組データベース２００に含むことが可能である。オーディオ番組データベース２００は、例えば、ｗｗｗ．ｒａｄｉｏ−ｌｏｃａｔｏｒ．ｃｏｍに見つけられる無線局ロケータデータベースを用いて具現化され得る。
図３Ａ及び図３Ｂは、集合的に、決定樹テレビジョンリコメンダによって維持される例示的な傾聴履歴３００を示すテーブルである。肯定的な例３００−１は、図３Ａに示し、否定的な例３００−２は、図３Ｂに示す。図３Ａに示すように、傾聴履歴３００−１は、それぞれ、ユーザの異なる傾聴セッションに関連付けられる複数のレコード３０１―３０３を含む。図３Ｂに示すように、傾聴履歴の否定的な例３００−２は、ユーザが聴かなかったランダムに選択される番組にそれぞれ関連付けられる複数のレコード３０５−３０７を含む。
図３Ａ及び図３Ｂに示すように、各セッションに対し、傾聴履歴３００は、フィールド３２０−３５０に様々な特性を識別する。フィールド３２０−３４０に示す値は、一般的に、オーディオ番組ガイド２００から得られ得る。フィールド３４５に示す値は、本発明の環境データ収集システム１４０から収集されたデータから得られ得る。
図３Ｃは、図３Ａ及び図３Ｂに示す傾聴履歴３００から決定樹テレビジョンリコメンダによって生成され得る例示的なユーザプロファイル３６０を示すテーブルである。図３Ｃに示すように、決定樹ユーザプロファイル３６０は、それぞれ、様々な環境条件下におけるユーザの嗜好を特定する異なるルールに関連付けられる複数のレコード３７１−３７４を含む。更に、ユーザプロファイル３６０は、列３８０に識別される各ルールに対して、ルールに関連付けられる条件をフィールド３８５に識別し、対応する推薦をフィールド３９０に識別する。決定樹推薦システムにおけるプロファイル生成のより詳細な説明は、例えば、本願に参考として組込む「Ｍｅｔｈｏｄ ａｎｄ Ａｐｐａｒａｔｕｓ ｆｏｒ Ｒｅｃｏｍｍｅｎｄｉｎｇ Ｔｅｌｅｖｉｓｉｏｎ Ｐｒｏｇｒａｍｍｉｎｇ Ｕｓｉｎｇ Ｄｅｃｉｓｉｏｎ Ｔｒｅｅｓ」なる名称で、１９９９年１２月１７日に出願された米国特許出願番号０９／４６６，４０６を参照されたい。
環境的な要因は、例えば、ユーザが、全体のスコアを算出するために用いる各特徴に重みを割当てることを可能にすることによって、推薦スコアを強調することができる。更なる変形では、ルールは、各ルールの条件に登場する環境要因の数に応じて順番付けることも可能であるし、又は、ユーザが選択することにより順番付けることも可能である。
図４は、例示的な環境に影響を受けるオーディオ推薦処理４００を説明するフローチャートである。環境に影響を受けるオーディオ推薦処理４００は、ユーザの嗜好と、場所、その場所の特徴、又は、天候といった環境要因とに基づいて、番組推薦１５０を生成する。
図４に示すように、環境に影響を受けるオーディオ推薦処理４００は、最初に、段階４１０において、関心の時間帯（及び地理的地域の）オーディオ番組ガイド２００を得る。その後、段階４２０にて、適切なユーザプロファイル３６０が得られ、段階４３０にて、その関心の時間帯の環境特徴が得られる。上述したように、段階４３０にて得る環境特徴は、場所、その場所の特徴、天候、又は、動作の速さといった動作の特徴のうち１つ以上を含み得る。次に、環境に影響を受けるオーディオ推薦処理４００は、必要である場合には、段階４４０にて、様々なユーザプロファイル３６０からの各属性の数値格付けを同じ数値尺度に変換する。
段階４５０にて、ユーザプロファイル３６０に示すルールは、関心の地理的地域における各無線局のオーディオ番組ガイド２００に適用され、無線局の特徴と示される環境特徴によって満足される第１のルールを識別する。各無線局に対し、一度ルールが満足されると、対応する推薦スコアが、フィールド３９０から得られる。推薦スコアは、本願に参考として組込む「Ｍｅｔｈｏｄ ａｎｄ Ａｐｐａｒａｔｕｓ ｆｏｒ Ｒｅｃｏｍｍｅｎｄｉｎｇ Ｔｅｌｅｖｉｓｉｏｎ Ｐｒｏｇｒａｍｍｉｎｇ Ｕｓｉｎｇ Ｄｅｃｉｓｉｏｎ Ｔｒｅｅｓ」なる名称で、１９９９年１２月１７日に出願された米国特許出願番号０９／４６６，４０６に記載する技術による決定樹推薦システムにより算出され得る。ベイズ（Ｂａｙｅｓｉａｎ）推薦システムによる推薦スコアの算出の説明は、例えば、本願に参考として組込む「Ｂａｙｅｓｉａｎ Ｔｅｌｅｖｉｓｉｏｎ Ｓｈｏｗ Ｒｅｃｏｍｍｅｎｄｅｒ」なる名称で、２０００年２月４日に出願された米国特許出願（代理人整理番号ＵＳ００００１８）を参照されたい。
プログラム制御が終了する前に、段階４６０にて、生成された推薦がユーザに提示される。
本願に図示し説明した実施例及び変形は、本発明の原理を説明するものに過ぎず、当業者により、様々な修正が、本発明の範囲及び技術的思想から逸脱することなく実施され得ることを理解するものとする。
本発明は、数個の別個の素子から構成されるハードウェア、及び、好適にプログラムされたコンピュータによって実施可能である。「コンピュータプログラム」とは、例えば、フロッピー（登録商標）ディスクといったコンピュータ可読媒体上に格納され、インターネットといったようなネットワークを介してダウンロード可能であり、又は、任意の他の方法で販売可能な任意のソフトウェアプロダクトを意味すると理解するものとする。
本発明のリコメンダを示す図である。 図１のオーディオ番組データベースからのサンプルテーブルである。 例示的な決定樹（ＤＴ）リコメンダによって用いられる傾聴履歴（肯定例）からのサンプルテーブルである。 例示的な決定樹（ＤＴ）リコメンダによって用いられる傾聴履歴（否定例）からのサンプルテーブルである。 図３Ａ及び図３Ｂの傾聴履歴から決定樹（ＤＴ）リコメンダによって生成される視聴者プロファイルからのサンプルテーブルである。 本発明の原理を具現化する例示的な環境に影響を受けるオーディオ推薦処理を説明するフローチャートである。

Claims (11)

  1. ユーザにアイテムを推薦する方法であって、
    推薦システムが、１つ以上の環境条件のもとでの上記ユーザの嗜好を、ユーザがある時点においてあるアイテムを選択するのに反応して上記あるアイテムの特性を判別し、環境データ収集システムにより上記ある時点における上記１つ以上の環境条件を判別することによって観察する段階であって、上記環境データ収集システムは動き感知システムおよび天候データ収集システムのうちの少なくとも一つを有しているような段階と、
    上記推薦システムが、上記あるアイテムの上記判別された特性を上記判別された１つ以上の環境条件とともに履歴に記録する段階と、
    上記推薦システムが、のちの時点において上記環境データ収集システムにより１つ以上の現在の環境条件を判別する段階と、
    上記推薦システムが、複数のアイテムのそれぞれについて、上記各アイテムの特性が上記あるアイテムの上記特性に一致または類似し、上記１つ以上の現在の環境条件が上記ある時点における上記１つ以上の環境条件に一致または類似するかどうかに基づいて、各アイテムに対する推薦スコアを生成する段階と、
    上記推薦システムが、上記推薦スコアに基づいて上記複数のアイテムのうち選択された１つ以上を推薦する段階と、を含む方法。
  2. 上記推薦システムが、所与の時間に対する１つ以上の環境特徴を特徴付ける情報を得る段階を更に含み、
    上記推薦スコアが更に、上記所与の時間に対する上記１つ以上の環境特徴に基づいている、請求項１記載の方法。
  3. 上記アイテムが、無線局、プロダクト、又は、コンテンツである請求項１記載の方法。
  4. 上記１つ以上の環境条件が、場所、場所の１つ以上の特徴、又は、天候条件、又は、上記ユーザの動きの特徴である請求項１記載の方法。
  5. 上記推薦システムが、上記１つ以上の環境条件のもとで観察される上記ユーザの嗜好をプロファイルに記録する、請求項１記載の方法。
  6. ユーザにアイテムを推薦するシステムであって、
    コンピュータ可読コードを格納するメモリと、
    上記メモリに動作上結合されるプロセッサと、を含み、
    上記プロセッサは、
    １つ以上の環境条件のもとでの上記ユーザの嗜好を、ユーザがある時点においてあるアイテムを選択するのに反応して上記あるアイテムの特性を判別し、環境データ収集システムにより上記ある時点における上記１つ以上の環境条件を判別することによって観察し、ここで、上記環境データ収集システムは動き感知システムおよび天候データ収集システムのうちの少なくとも一つを有しており、
    上記あるアイテムの上記判別された特性を上記判別された１つ以上の環境条件とともに履歴に記録し、
    のちの時点において上記環境データ収集システムにより１つ以上の現在の環境条件を判別し、
    複数のアイテムのそれぞれについて、上記各アイテムの特性が上記あるアイテムの上記特性に一致または類似し、上記１つ以上の現在の環境条件が上記ある時点における上記１つ以上の環境条件に一致または類似するかどうかに基づいて、各アイテムに対する推薦スコアを生成し、
    上記推薦スコアに基づいて上記複数のアイテムのうち選択された１つ以上を推薦する、よう構成される、システム。
  7. 上記プロセッサは更に、所与の時間に対する１つ以上の環境特徴を特徴付ける情報を得るよう構成され、
    上記推薦スコアは更に、上記所与の時間に対する上記１つ以上の環境特徴に基づく請求項６記載のシステム。
  8. 上記アイテムは、無線局、プロダクト、又は、コンテンツである請求項６記載のシステム。
  9. 上記１つ以上の環境条件は、場所、場所の１つ以上の特徴、天候条件、又は、上記ユーザの動きの特徴である請求項６記載のシステム。
  10. 上記１つ以上の環境条件のもとで観察される上記ユーザの嗜好は、プロファイルに記録される請求項６記載のシステム。
  11. プログラム可能な装置によって実行されると、該プログラム可能な装置をして：
    １つ以上の環境条件のもとでの上記ユーザの嗜好を、ユーザがある時点においてあるアイテムを選択するのに反応して上記あるアイテムの特性を判別し、環境データ収集システムにより上記ある時点における上記１つ以上の環境条件を判別することによって観察する段階であって、上記環境データ収集システムは動き感知システムおよび天候データ収集システムのうちの少なくとも一つを有している、段階と、
    上記あるアイテムの上記判別された特性を上記判別された１つ以上の環境条件とともに履歴に記録する段階と、
    のちの時点において上記環境データ収集システムにより１つ以上の現在の環境条件を判別する段階と、
    複数のアイテムのそれぞれについて、上記各アイテムの特性が上記あるアイテムの上記特性に一致または類似し、上記１つ以上の現在の環境条件が上記ある時点における上記１つ以上の環境条件に一致または類似するかどうかに基づいて、各アイテムに対する推薦スコアを生成手段によって生成する段階と、
    上記推薦スコアに基づいて上記複数のアイテムのうち選択された１つ以上を推薦する段階と、を実行させることを特徴とするコンピュータプログラム。
