Description
この発光管アレイ型表示装置では、表示の際の駆動は、3電極面放電形式のPDP(プラズマディスプレイパネル)と同様に、アドレス−表示分離型サブフィールド法で行うようにしている。したがって、図では、アドレス−表示分離型サブフィールド法で駆動する際のフィールド構成及び駆動電圧波形の例を示している。
各発光管は、それぞれ赤(R)用、緑(G)用、青(B)用の単色の発光管である。本発光管アレイは、これらの単色の発光管を図のように画面の列方向に沿ってR,G,Bの順で横長に配置した横ストライプ構造である。
図3は発光管アレイ型表示装置のドライバ配置を示す説明図である。
本発光管アレイ型表示装置においては、表示の際の駆動はアドレス−表示分離型サブフィールド法で行う。したがって、フィールド構成は図11で示したものと同じである。
この例は、発光管1を画面の行方向に並列に複数配置して発光管アレイを構成している。つまり、縦ストライプ構造の発光管アレイである。画面の縦横比は、上述の実施形態と同じ1:5である。
この例は、発光管1を画面の列方向に沿って並列に複数配置して発光管アレイを構成している。つまり、横ストライプ構造の発光管アレイである。画面の縦横比は、上述の実施形態と同じ1:5である。したがって、発光管アレイの配置だけに着目した場合には、上述の実施形態と同じである。ただし、以下に説明するドライバの接続方法が、上述の実施形態とは異なる。
Claims (6)
- 内部に放電ガスが封入された複数の発光管を並列して配置した発光管アレイ型表示装置であって、
表示装置の画面が長辺と短辺とを有する矩形画面からなり、前記矩形画面の長辺に平行に前記複数の発光管が配置され、
発光管アレイの表示面側に、前記矩形画面の短辺と平行に、各発光管を横切るように設けられ、隣接する第1電極と第2電極間で発光管内において表示用放電を発生させる複数の第1電極および第2電極と、
発光管アレイの背面側に、前記矩形画面の長辺と平行に、発光管の長手方向に沿って発光管毎に設けられ、第1電極または第2電極との交差部において発光セルを形成する複数の第3電極とを備え、
前記画面の長辺方向が、前記画面の短辺の長さの3倍以上の長さを有する一本の発光管で形成され、
前記第3電極の数が、第1電極及び第2電極からなる放電電極対の数よりも小であり、
画面表示の際には、前記複数の第3電極をスキャン電極として用いて前記複数の第3電極にスキャン電圧を前記矩形画面の短辺をなす方向に順次印加してゆき、その間に所望の第1電極または第2電極にアドレス電圧を印加して、所望の発光セルでアドレス用放電を発生させて発光セルを選択し、その後、隣接する第1電極と第2電極間で表示用放電を発生させることで表示を行うことを特徴とする発光管アレイ型表示装置。 - 発光管アレイが、発光管ごとに単色の蛍光体層を持つことを特徴とする請求項1記載の発光管アレイ型表示装置。
- 発光管アレイ型表示装置が、赤色用、緑色用、青色用の3つのサブピクセルで1つの画素を構成するフルカラー表示の発光管アレイ型表示装置であり、前記矩形画面の長辺が、短辺の3倍よりも長い請求項1記載の発光管アレイ型表示装置。
- 発光管アレイの表示面側に配置され発光管アレイに当接して発光管アレイを支持する前面側支持体と、発光管アレイの背面側に配置され発光管アレイに当接して発光管アレイを支持する背面側支持体とをさらに備え、第1電極と第2電極が前面側支持体の発光管アレイ対向面に形成され、第3電極が背面側支持体の発光管アレイ対向面に形成されてなる請求項1記載の発光管アレイ型表示装置。
- 内部に放電ガスが封入された複数の発光管を並列して配置した発光管アレイ型表示装置の駆動方法であって、
前記発光管アレイ型表示装置は、
表示装置の画面が長辺と短辺とを有する矩形画面からなり、前記矩形画面の長辺に平行に前記複数の発光管が配置され、
発光管アレイの表示面側に、前記矩形画面の短辺と平行に、各発光管を横切るように設けられ、隣接する第1電極と第2電極間で発光管内において表示用放電を発生させる複数の第1電極および第2電極と、
発光管アレイの背面側に、前記矩形画面の長辺と平行に、発光管の長手方向に沿って発光管毎に設けられ、第1電極または第2電極との交差部において発光セルを形成する複数の第3電極とを備えた構成であり、
前記画面の長辺方向が、前記画面の短辺の長さの3倍以上の長さを有する一本の発光管で形成され、
前記第3電極の数が、第1電極及び第2電極からなる放電電極対の数よりも小であり、
前記発光管アレイ型表示装置の画面表示の際には、前記複数の第3電極をスキャン電極として用いて前記複数の第3電極にスキャン電圧を前記矩形画面の短辺をなす方向に順次印加してゆき、その間に所望の第1電極または第2電極にアドレス電圧を印加して、所望の発光セルでアドレス用放電を発生させて発光セルを選択し、その後、隣接する第1電極と第2電極間で表示用放電を発生させることで画面表示を行うことからなる発光管アレイ型表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記複数の第3電極にスキャン電圧を印加する前に、全ての発光セルの壁電荷を初期化するリセット期間を設け、そのリセット期間において、全ての第3電極にリセットパルスを印加して全ての発光セルでリセット用放電を発生させる請求項5記載の発光管アレイ型表示装置の駆動方法。
