Abstract
【解決手段】液晶ドライバ10は、図示しない外部電源を内部電源が配設された位置の外部に設け、ドライバ部12の内部電源に接続され、内部電源から電圧V1およびV4の範囲内で電流を供給し、ドライブ切換部14から所定の周期で切換信号72〜78をドライブ切換部14に供給し、内部切換部28および外部切換部32の切換制御を内部および外部駆動のいずれかとして電圧でシェアしながら液晶負荷54および58に電流を供給し、ドライバ部12による内部駆動を抑制し、抑制した分を外部駆動で補う。

Claims (7)
- 供給される階調データそれぞれに応じて画素に対応する各表示素子負荷を駆動させる駆動装置において、該装置は、
所定の電圧範囲内の電圧を供給する第1の電源に接続され、前記階調データに対応する階調信号を入力し、該階調信号に応じた電圧を前記表示素子負荷に印加して、前記表示素子負荷を駆動させる第1の駆動手段と、
前記所定の電圧範囲内から適宜選択した複数の電圧を第2の電源として前記表示素子負荷に印加して、前記表示素子負荷を駆動させる第2の駆動手段と、
第1の駆動手段の第1駆動と第2の駆動手段の第2駆動とを切り換える駆動切換手段と、
該駆動切換手段の第1および第2駆動のいずれかを選択する切換信号を生成する切換制御手段とを含み、
第2の電源は、第1の電源が配設された位置から隔離された外部にあることを特徴とする駆動装置。 - 請求項1に記載の装置において、第2の電源は、該装置を収納するパッケージの外部にあることを特徴とする駆動装置。
- 請求項1または2に記載の装置において、前記切換制御手段は、第2の電源で設定される電圧の設定数に応じたロード信号と極性を表わす極性信号とを基に前記切換信号を生成することを特徴とする駆動装置。
- 請求項1、2または3に記載の装置において、前記切換制御手段は、第2駆動の有無を判定する判定手段を含むことを特徴とする駆動装置。
- 請求項1ないし4のいずれか一項に記載の装置において、該装置は、低い階調から高い階調までn段階の階調に応じた電圧を出力する駆動装置であって、
第2の電源は、n/4番目からn/2番目の階調に応じた電圧であることを特徴とする駆動装置。 - 供給される階調データそれぞれに応じて画素に対応する各表示素子負荷を駆動させる駆動方法において、該方法は、
所定の電圧範囲内の電圧を供給する第1の電源と、第1の電源が配設された位置の外部に隔離した第2の電源とから前記表示素子負荷に給電し、
第1の電源は、所定の電圧範囲内で電圧を印加して、
第2の電源は前記所定の電圧範囲内から適宜選択した複数の電圧を印加して、
該表示素子負荷への印加に際して、前記複数設定された電圧範囲内または該電圧範囲外の電圧範囲にあるかに応じて前記表示素子負荷に対して放電または充電させる短絡の切換制御信号を生成し、
該切換制御信号に応じて前記複数設定された電圧範囲内の場合、第2の電源から給電し、前記電圧範囲以外にある場合、第1の電源から給電することを特徴とする駆動方法。 - 請求項6に記載の方法において、該方法は、前記階調データの最上位ビットの有無に応じて第2の電源からの給電させるか否かを判定することを特徴とする駆動方法。
