Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an electron emitter that emits electrons by field emission and a manufacturing method thereof.
Therefore, the problem to be solved by the present invention is to increase the emission point density, stabilize the emission characteristics, and reduce the cost more than the conventional Spindt type, carbon fiber type, and diamond seeding type. It is to provide an electron emitter that can contribute and a method of manufacturing the same.
In the first electron emitter of the present invention, a large number of nanometer-sized carbon catalyst growth metal catalyst particles having a substantially uniform particle diameter are arranged on a substrate, and the electron emission carbon is formed on the large number of metal catalyst particles. The film is grown in a shape reflecting the particle shape of the metal catalyst fine particles.
According to the first electron emitter, the carbon film for electron emission is formed on the metal catalyst fine particles, and the carbon film has a structure reflecting the particle shape of the nm-size metal catalyst fine particles. The number of arranged metal catalyst fine particles can exist, the emission point density on the phosphor that emits light from the electrons emitted from the electron emission carbon film is improved, and the particle size of the metal catalyst fine particles is uniform. As a result, the distance between the electron emission portion of the carbon film for electron emission and the phosphor is substantially uniform, and as a result, the light emission characteristics of the phosphor are extremely stabilized. Therefore, in the first electron emitter, there are no problems such as processing of the emitter tip as in the Spindt type, the accompanying processing cost, uniform formation of the emitter tip shape, and low emission point density, and the aspect ratio is large as in the carbon fiber type. There is no problem such as light emission flicker due to uneven length, and there is no problem due to non-uniform particle size of diamond fine particles as in the diamond seeding type.
In the second electron emitter of the present invention, a large number of metal catalyst fine particles for nm-size carbon film growth having a substantially uniform particle size are arranged on a substrate, and an intermediate intervening carbon having a high etching rate is formed on the many metal catalyst fine particles. A film is formed, and carbon particles for an electron emission starting point having a slow etching rate are arranged at the tips of a number of intermediate intervening carbon films.
According to the second electron emitter, the intermediate intervening carbon film is disposed on the metal catalyst fine particles, and the carbon particles for the electron emission starting point having a slower etching rate than the intermediate intervening carbon film are disposed and supported at the tip of the intermediate intervening carbon film. Therefore, it becomes possible to form the carbon fine particles for the electron emission starting point by the number of arrangement of the metal catalyst fine particles, the emission point density on the phosphor of the light emitting device using the electron emitter is improved, and the metal Since the catalyst fine particles are arranged on the substrate with a substantially uniform particle size, the distance between the phosphor and the electron emission starting carbon fine particles is stabilized, and the light emission characteristics are extremely stabilized. Therefore, in the second electron emitter, there is no problem of processing of the emitter tip as in the Spindt type, the processing cost associated therewith, uniform formation of the shape of the emitter tip, and low emission point density, and the aspect ratio is large as in the carbon fiber type. There is no problem such as light emission flicker due to uneven length, and there is no problem due to non-uniform particle size of diamond fine particles as in the diamond seeding type.
In addition, according to the second electron emitter, the carbon material of the carbon particles for the electron emission starting point is any one of diamond, amorphous carbon, diamond-like carbon, fullerene, carbon nanotube, and graphite nanofiber, and the carbon of the intermediate intervening carbon film. It is preferable that the material is a carbon material having an etching rate faster than that of the carbon material. While the diamond fine particles have high resistance but negative electron affinity, they can emit electrons with high efficiency. On the other hand, the carbon material used for the intermediate intervening carbon film has lower resistance than diamond fine particles. Therefore, it is possible to easily supply a current to the diamond fine particles, thereby providing an electron emitter that can stably maintain high-efficiency electron emission characteristics as a whole.
In the third electron emitter of the present invention, a large number of metal catalyst fine particles for nm-size carbon film growth having a substantially uniform particle size are arranged on the substrate, and the carbon film for electron emission is selected on the many metal catalyst fine particles. It is characterized by growing continuously.
In the third electron emitter, since the electron emission carbon film is formed on the metal catalyst fine particles, the electron emission carbon film, which is the electron emission location, can exist as many as the number of arranged metal catalyst fine particles. Since the emission point density on the phosphor that emits light from the electrons emitted from the electron emission carbon film is improved and the particle diameter of the metal catalyst fine particles is uniform, the carbon film for electron emission that grows on the metal catalyst fine particles As a result of the substantially uniform distance between the electron emitting portion and the phosphor, the light emission characteristics of the phosphor are extremely stabilized. Therefore, in the third electron emitter, there is no problem of processing of the emitter tip as in the Spindt type, the processing cost associated therewith, uniform formation of the shape of the emitter tip, and low emission point density, and the aspect ratio is large as in the carbon fiber type. There is no problem such as light emission flicker due to uneven length, and there is no problem due to non-uniform particle size of diamond fine particles as in the diamond seeding type.
In the first to third electron emitters, the emission point density on the phosphor when the electrons emitted from the electron emitter collide with the phosphor and the phosphor emits excitation light per square millimeter. The number is preferably 10 7 to 10 12 .
The electron emitter of the present invention has higher emission point density, more stable emission characteristics, and lower manufacturing costs than any of the conventional Spindt type, carbon fiber type, and diamond seeding type.
Hereinafter, an electron emitter and a manufacturing method thereof according to embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
FIG. 1 is a sectional view conceptually showing an electron emitter (first electron emitter) according to an embodiment of the present invention. In the first electron emitter, as a substrate material, all conductive materials such as a semiconductor substrate, a metal substrate, and a metal thin film formed on glass are applied. In the embodiment, the
By the above treatment, the metal catalyst
An electron emission carbon film 6 reflecting the particle shape of the metal catalyst
Since the metal catalyst
With reference to FIG. 2, the manufacturing method of a 1st electron emitter is demonstrated. First, as shown in FIG. 2A, metal catalyst
Next, as shown in FIG. 2B, an electron emission carbon film 6 is grown on the metal catalyst
In the first electron emitter, the electron emission carbon film 6 grows on the metal catalyst
In the first electron emitter, there is no problem of processing the tip of the emitter as in the Spindt type, the processing cost associated with it, uniform formation of the shape of the tip of the emitter, and the low emission point density. There are no problems such as light emission flickering due to the irregularity, and there are no problems due to nonuniformity of the particle diameter of the diamond fine particles as in the diamond seeding type. From the above, in the first electron emitter, when a phosphor is disposed at the anode and incorporated in a light emitting device that emits electrons toward the phosphor and emits excitation light, is it difficult to obtain with a conventional electron emitter? Alternatively, it is possible to provide uniform and stable light emission characteristics that could not be obtained.
An electron emitter (second electron emitter) according to another embodiment will be described with reference to FIG. In the second electron emitter, the metal catalyst
More specifically, the second electron emitter is formed of metal catalyst
In the second electron emitter, the
In the embodiment, the
In the second electron emitter, since the intermediate intervening
The second electron emitter, like the first electron emitter, has no problems such as the processing of the tip of the emitter, the processing cost associated therewith, the uniform formation of the shape of the tip of the emitter, and the low emission point density. There are no problems such as light emission flicker due to the large aspect ratio and uneven length, and there are no problems due to non-uniform grain size of diamond particles as in the diamond seeding type. From the above, in the second electron emitter, when a phosphor is arranged at the anode and incorporated in a light emitting device or the like that emits electrons toward the phosphor and emits excitation light, is it difficult to obtain with a conventional electron emitter? Alternatively, it is possible to provide uniform and stable light emission characteristics that could not be obtained.
The manufacturing method of the second electron emitter will be described with reference to FIG. 4. First, the metal catalyst
Next, an
Next, as shown in FIG. 4C, the electron emission starting
