To date, only a small number on the preparation of organically functionalized metal microparticles
Reports exist. However, the product synthesized in those reports was
It has drawbacks due to some or all of the following features: 1) the resulting material is X-ray
Is amorphous (amorphous); 2) the resulting material has a poor surface composition;
4) the resulting material has poor solubility in aqueous and organic media;
3.) The resulting material has a wide relative size distribution (average diameter ± 50%). For example,
Limited to a certain “average” size characterized by a wide size distribution, and
All functionally functional microcrystals that are insoluble in aqueous media are disclosed.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The nanocrystal product of the present invention overcomes the problems previously discussed.
Avoid. "Prepared" spherical microparticles are crystalline and have a narrow relative size distribution
(As low as ± 10%). However, more importantly
Are functionalized by well-defined organic groups that are covalently attached to the particle surface.
Is a fact. Their organic functionalities are chemically and to the% coverage on their surface
Can be changed with respect to Such chemistry is very useful in the following ways:
1) Organic functional groups bound with a size-dependent curvature of the particle surface
It produces various solubilities as a function of size. Size-dependent interactions between particles
In fact, this fact is in the range of about 1.5 to 10 nm, using specially developed chemical techniques.
Enables the generation of just narrow size distributions (ideally within ± 0.3 nm); 2) before
The particles can be used in aqueous media and in various organics (alkanes, aromatics, halogens).
, Hydrocarbons, and the like). This
It is based on a variety of substrates and matrices (gels, polymers, glasses, porous materials,
And the like) or the ability to prepare particles on or within;
The effect of fractionated surface coverage on size particles is enhanced in certain catalytic processes
Sterically adjust the chemical approach to the surface to provide better reaction selectivity
Can be used for
The method of preparing and isolating the crystals of the present invention requires a well-defined surface composition, narrow size
Characterized by distribution and uniform shape. In addition, the two-dimensional
And a three-dimensional closely packed ordered array (superlattice)
Created on a scale. Catalytically active metals such as Pt, Pd and Ag, and non-catalytically active
Metals and alloys such as Au and Cox Auy Has been prepared.
The present invention relates to various metal microcrystals whose particles are characterized by the following properties:
Provide techniques for the synthesis of materials: (1) they contain dissolved polymers.
(2) they can be dissolved and redissolved in various organic media, including
As a powder or monodisperse (non-aggregating) colloid under ambient conditions for at least several days

Stable for several months when stored under low temperature conditions; (4)
Easily separated into arbitrarily narrow size distributions through chemical and chromatographic techniques
Exist as monodisperse entities (when prepared as organic colloids)
(5) they can be prepared in at least gram quantities; (6)
Host for certain metal-containing inorganic compounds, phase transfer catalysts, surface protectants and reducing agents
Prepared as alloys or pure metal particles synthesized from combinations of
(7) they can be in various matrices.
Or on various substrates (gel, polymer, glass, alumina, silica and similar)
(8) they are novel, dominated by the single-electron phenomenon
Closely packed in two and three dimensions to form a "superlattice" exhibiting electronic properties
Can be arranged in an ordered array. Particles prepared and meeting the above criteria are Au,
Ag, Pt, Pd and Co / Au (alloy). Particle size is 1-20nm diameter
Range.
A material property in which the microcrystals of the present invention are not exhibited by any other particle system
Aside from the fact of having the main, the main advantage of the technology over the existing prior art is that
Excellent movement on the surface of microcrystals as a route to stabilize their particles
Of a covalently bound organic ligand forming a mechanically and / or thermodynamically stable monolayer
Use. This is due to the chemically adjusted solubility in the final metal microcrystal product,
Provides monodispersity and size control. Ligand generally interacts with the metal microcrystal surface.
Interacts with interacting chemical components and surrounding solvents, polymers, matrices, etc.
Have chemical components to use. Both components can be modified within the limits of chemical compatibility.
The present invention is not limited to simple single component metal systems. In fact, some systems
For stems, chemically stabilizes bare metal particles through the use of shared organic ligands
It is difficult to convert. However, in that case, the metal containing the second metal
Alloys can be manufactured. Ideally, this second metal will have a low surface energy.
(So that it coats the surface of the particles), and
The ligand itself is easily stabilized. For example, a Co / Au system
In turn, Co has magnetic properties that make it a potential technical application. But
Thus, it is difficult to find ligands that chemically stabilize Co microcrystals. That
Such ligands are easily found for Au systems, and furthermore, Au is low
It has a high surface energy. Thus, showing the ferromagnetic properties of Co, but comparing Au
Of Co / Au alloy microcrystals characterized by simple surface chemistry
It is possible.
