987,629. Fluid-pressure jacks. TANGYES Ltd. Feb. 25, 1964 [March 29, 1963], No. 12481/63. Heading B8J. An hydraulic force exerting apparatus includes a container divided into two chambers 8, 21 by a flexible diaphragm 20, the chamber 8 constituting a fluid reservoir and the chamber 21 being in communication with the atmosphere. When a pump 7 is operated by a rockable lever part 16, fluid is drawn out of the reservoir 8 and air is drawn into the chamber 21, the diaphragm 20 adjusting itself as the volumes of the chambers vary. To lower a lifting ram 3, a valve 15 is opened to allow the fluid to return from a ram bore 2 to the reservoir. In a modification, Fig. 3, the diaphragm is replaced by a flexible bellows 23. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the reservoir is defined by a flexible bag 24.
