Abstract
1,092,406. Valves. J. L. GRATZMULLER. Nov. 5, 1965 [Nov. 20, 1964], No. 47028/65. Heading F2V. [Also in Division F1] A quick-acting evacuation valve for a spring-returned hydraulic jack 10, Fig. 2, suitable for actuating a circuit-breaker is associated with a non-return fluid inlet valve 26, Fig. 1, and comprises a casing 2 divided by a piston 12 into a first compartment 14 open at 6 to a valved conduit 46 connected either to an accumulator 36 or to a sump 48 according to the setting of the control valve 44, and into a second compartment 16 continuously open at 8 to the fluid side of the jack piston and connected to the evacuation duct 18 through an orifice 20 controlled by the evacuation valve 22 formed by the nose 28 of the piston 12 which latter has at least one fluid inlet aperture 24 controlled by the inlet valve 26 which is of ring form and slidably mounted on the piston nose 28. In operation, fluid pressure admitted to compartment 14 assists a spring 30 in holding evacuator valve 22 closed and opens inlet valve 26 against a spring 32, and on switching valve 44 to connect compartment 14 to the neck 48 jack pressure in compartment 16 closes inlet valve 26 and opens evacuation valve 22 against its spring 30. In a modification the inlet valve (26<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 3 (not shown), comprises a sleeve slidably mounted on the piston nose which is hollow and has radial inlet apertures (24<SP>1</SP>) upstream of which a calibrated jet (64) which regulates the speed of both the forward and return stroke of the jack.
