Abstract

981,030. Expanding-wheel gear. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DE TRANSMISSIONS. March 23, 1961 [March 23, 1960], No. 10667/61. Heading F2D. A steplessly variable V-belt gear comprises driving expanding pulleys fast in rotation with an input shaft 2 and operated simultaneously for ratio shift, and driven pulleys rotating with half shafts 31, 32 or with a common output shaft. The driving pulleys have fixed flanges 4, 5 and flanges 6, 7 slidably splined on the input shaft and controlled by levers 8, 9 pivoted at 10, 11 to a floating rod 33 and pivoted at their opposite ends to nuts engaging oppositely handed threads on a control rod 18. The driven pulleys have flanges 20, 23 fixed to the half shafts 31, 32 and flanges 21, 22 slidably splined thereon and urged apart by a spring 24. A spring 27 compensates for the effect of the belt tension on the levers 8, 9. Rotation of the control rod 18 effects ratio shift, and should the loading of the belts vary the levers 8, 9 pivot about the nuts to produce inverse ratio adjustment in the driving pulleys, with consequential adjustment of the driven pulleys, until their differential loading has been corrected. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the levers 8, 9 are adjusted by a lazy-tongs arrangement. In a further modification (Fig. 1, not shown) in which the driven pulleys drive a common output shaft, the rod 33 may be locked in position after initial adjustment. French Specifications 1,184,660 and 1,206,182 are referred to.
