Abstract

Variable transmission has a variable driving device comprising two shafts (A, B) on which are mounted respective conical pulleys (2, 4). A belt (6) is trained around the pulleys and is movable by a pivoted lever (8) with a U-shaped member (12) which straddles the belt. Input and output shafts (I, Q) may be selectively coupled to the shaft (A) of pulley (2) or shaft (B) of pulley (4) through gear boxes (14, 16). Alternatively, the variable drive may be provided by fixed and variable diameter pulleys, or by two variable diameter pulleys. Each variable diameter pulley preferably has a cylindrical elastic body which is radially movable as the pulley checks are moved axially.
