Abstract
980,011. Lift truck attachments for handling drop bottom containers. J. GOLCHER Ltd. Dec. 30, 1963 [Jan. 1, 1963], No. 32/63. Heading B8H. The lifting carriage of a lift truck is provided with an attachment for use in the handling of containers having hinged bottoms. As shown, the attachment comprises a hollow body 10 mounted by means of hook members 11, 12 on the lifting carriage 13, 14 and slidably supporting a member 16 which is provided with a head portion 15 having a hook 18, 19 and a pivoted catch member 20. In operation, to discharge a container 21 having a hinged bottom 22 supported by the forks 23, the lifting carriage is raised until the catch member 20 is above the level of the top of the mast assembly 24 whereupon the mast assembly is tilted rearwardly so that the catch member pivots rearwardly under gravity. When the lifting carriage is then lowered, the member 16 and head portion 15 are retained in an upper position by engagement of the catch member 20 with the top of the mast assembly 24 and the container 21 descends until a bar 25 secured to the container engages the hook 18, 19 on head portion 15. Continued downward movement of the lifting carriage then permits the hinged bottom 22 of the container to open, Fig. 3.
