Abstract

1,183,904. Side-loading attachments for fork lift trucks. ELECTROMEC DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT CO. 6 Sept., 1968 [20 Sept., 1967], No. 42534/68. Heading B8H. A side-loading attachment provided with sockets 41, 42 engaging the forks 38, 39 is. provided with a support 65 which is adapted to be extended laterally of the truck to rest on, for example, a storage rack 250 before a loadsupporting platform 60 is moved laterally to deposit a load on or remove a load from the rack. The support and platform are movable by hydraulic rams acting through rack and pinion mechanisms on intermediate carriages which are connected to the support and platform through pulley and cable systems. The support and platform, and the drive mechanism therefor, are pivotally mounted about an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the truck so as to be tiltable slightly, thereby limit switches in the truck lift circuit may be actuated. The arrangement is such that on projecting the support 65 laterally, the support tilts under gravity and actuates a limit switch. The support is then lowered until it engages the rack 250 and is thereby tilted back to the horizontal position and actuates a limit switch to prevent further lowering. The platform 60 may then be extended to receive or deposit a load on the rack, the platform being mounted on four hydraulic jacks whereby the platform may be tilted or raised and lowered slightly to facilitate depositing and raising loads in the rack. When the platform is moved laterally from its central position switches in the control circuit are actuated to prevent movement of the truck and raising of the forks. Electric and hydraulic control circuits, Figs. 24, 23 (not shown), are described in detail.
