Abstract

766,292. Fork lift trucks. RANSOMES, SIMS & JEFFERIES, Ltd., and RAYMENT, E. W. Nov. 17, 1955 [Nov. 26, 1954], No. 34410/54. Class 78 (3). In a fork lift truck goods are stabilized on the fork 4 by a guard 17. This guard is pivoted at 21 to a back frame 14 which is secured to the fork, and which is capable of lost motion relative to the lifting carriage 2, a chain 23 being connected between the guard and the carriage so that during the initial lifting movement, when the carriage 2 is raised relative to frame 14, the chain is slackened so allowing the guard to fall into a load-engaging position; whilst when the carriage is lowered with the fork resting on the ground, the chain is tensioned so raising the guard free of the load. The frame 14 is attached to a plate 5 which has lugs 8 extending through slots in the carriage and engaging springs 11 which also engage lugs 10 secured to the carriage 2. Plate 5 also carries rollers 13 which run on the back of the carriage. The pivot 21 is adjustable along the guard which carries an adjustable counterweight (not shown) at its rear end.
