1,187,765. Road vehicle lighting systems. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 14 Aug., 1967 [9 Sept., 1966], No. 40312/66. Heading H2H. [Also in Division G1] A circuit for enabling the driver of a road vehicle to ascertain the correct functioning of the side and tail lamps of the vehicle comprises a test lamp 17 in series with the side lamps 13 of the vehicle and a test lamp 19 in series with the vehicle tail lamps 14, each test lamp being shunted by a resistor or thermistor and the combinations of test lamps and resistors shortcircuited by a normally closed contact 21. Thus when the vehicle lighting switch 12 is moved to its first position to illuminate the side and tail lights, the opening of contact 21 by the driver of the vehicle enables the test lamps 17, 19 to give an indication of the correct functioning of the side and tail lamps 13, 14. Movement of the lighting switch 12 to its second position supplies the headlamps 15 of the vehicle whilst maintaining the supply to the side and tail lamps.
