[Also in Division D1] In a washing machine, a fan 29 is driven by an electric motor 18 through friction gears 81, 82, shaft 83, pulley wheel 84, and belt 32. The shaft 83 is supported at one end by a bell-crank lever 86 and at the other end by an arm 89, the lever and arm being pivotally attached to the frame of the machine. Pressure between the gears 81, 82 is produced by a tension spring 88 attached to the lever 86, and tension in the belt 32 is maintained by a jockey pulley 90 carried by a spring biased arm mounted on the lever 86. Tension applied to a sheathed cable 65 rotates the arm 89 and lever 86 against the action of the spring 88 to disengage the gears 81, 82.
