Abstract

463,112. Tensioning arrangements for belt gearing. PINCKNEY, V. Sept. 19, 1935, No. 25956. [Class 80 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] A belt-driving unit for a machine is adjusted to alter the belt-tension by rotating a drum in which the shaft carrying the driving pulley is mounted eccentrically. The driving unit may be housed within a stand, Fig. 1, and may form part of a treadle driving arrangement. The drum A, carrying the eccentrically mounted crank-shaft B, is rotatable within the bearings C to tension the driving belt. The connecting rod H, Fig. 2, has an adjustment 1 to prevent the treadle F touching the floor when the drum reaches its position of maximum adjustment. In a modification, an electric motor is used to drive the shaft 13 through gearing. The adjustment of the drum may be effected by a tommy bar and the drum secured by a strap, or a worm engaging teeth on the periphery of the drum may be employed.
