Abstract
963,836. Lubricator couplings. CASTROL Ltd. April 5, 1963 [March 15, 1962], No. 10056/62. Heading F2G. In a high-pressure lubricating device of the kind in which there is a nozzle 41 for engaging a nipple 47, the nozzle being disposed within a surrounding part 12 and so mounted that there may be relative movement between the nozzle and part 12 when the former is pressed against the nipple, which relative movement is arranged to open a valve 25 associated with a passage 19 through which lubricant under pressure can be fed, via the nozzle, to the nipple, means being provided for automatically closing the valve when the nozzle is withdrawn from the nipple, the nozzle and part 12 are so dimensioned and arranged with respect to the valve that only when the nozzle and nipple are in engagement and have the engaging faces thereof within the part 12 is opening of the valve effected by relative movement between the nozzle and part 12. As shown, a rod 24 carries a valve head 25 disposed in a chamber 28 and biased by a spring 29 on to a seat 33, the rod having a bore 44 communicating with the nipple 47 and, via a cross bore 45, with the chamber 28 when the rod is moved against the action of the spring.
