Abstract
418,487. Discharge nozzles for lubricators. BRETTELL, F. G., 14, High Holborn, London.-(Lubrication Corporation ; 910, South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, U.S.A.) June 27, 1933, No. 8193/34. Divided out of 417,147. [Class 99 (i).] A lubricator discharge nozzle A having a lubricant conduit 24 is adapted to be connected at one end to a source of lubricant under pressure and is provided at the other end with a discharge orifice 45 which is brought into engagement with the spherical head of a nipple N on the part to be lubricated by a clamping member 37 having internal spherical coacting surfaces 44. The orifice and clamping member are relatively movable on an axis inclined to the axis of the conduit 24, preferably at an angle of 40‹, and the clamping member is so formed that the nipple N is introduced to the nozzle along an axis perpendicular to said conduit axis. The clamping member is screwthreaded to the nozzle A and is secured thereto by a set screw 38, and it is provided with a cylindrical aperture 41 as shown to receive the nipple and also an elongated opening 40 of width slightly greater than the diameter of the neck of the nipple, the surfaces 44 being formed on the inwardly extending portions between said aperture 41 and opening 40. The discharge orifice 45 is formed in a piston 43 which is disposed within the end of the nozzle and the clamping member and is subjected to the combined pressures of a spring 52 and the passing lubricant. The piston may be formed in two parts 47, 48 with an intermediate sealing ring 49, the part 47 being hardened.
