Abstract

1,010,529. Pipe couplings. DAMIC CONTROLS Ltd. Oct. 29, 1964 [Oct. 30, 1963], No. 42876/63. Heading F2G. A self-sealing coupling includes two coaxially arranged parts 1, 2 adapted for connection together by a sleeve nut 3 to draw the parts into facial engagement, an annular ring 5 located in the part 1 and having a frustoconical seating 7, a spring-urged, frustoconical-headed, piston valve 9 axially slidable within the part 1 to engage the seating 7, a probe 15 carried by the part 2 and coaxially mounted therein and adapted to make facial engagement with the valve 9 to displace the latter from the seating 7 when the parts are drawn together. The probe has a mushroomtype head, and a sleeve valve 18 in the part 2 is spring-urged into sealing engagement with the head when the parts are separated, the valve being dimensioned to fit and enter a bore in the ring 5 to make sealing contact therewith and as a result of engagement of the parts to be moved out of engagement with the head of the probe against the action of the spring 21.
