Abstract

944,752. Sliding clasp fasteners. LIGHTNING FASTENERS Ltd. March 12, 1962 [March 22, 1961], No. 10455/61. Heading E2S. A sliding clasp fastener support tape comprises a beaded edge tape made from a non-woven textile material. As shown the tape is made from a strip of non-woven textile material 1 which is wrapped about a flexible bead reinforcement 2 and the strip of material is drawn tightly about the bead reinforcement by means of a longitudinal line of stitching 3. The inner surfaces 4 of the folded strip 1 are either left open so that material of a garment or article can be inserted between them and the arms then heat sealed or otherwise stuck to the garment or article or alternatively they are coated with a solution of a thermoplastic adhesive and then bonded together by heat and pressure. The flexible bead reinforcement 2 consists of cotton or other textile yarn or cord, a filament made of plastics material or a paper cord. The strip of non- woven material either has its fibres held together by felting or by the inclusion in the structure of a bonding material, the bonding process being performed with or without the application of heat and/or pressure. The fibres may be synthetic or natural and either randomly oriented or have a preferred orientation.
