Abstract
934,433. Feeding webs. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 25, 1959 [Nov. 28, 1958], No. 38500/58. Class 100 (1). [Also in Group XXXVIII] A vacuum capstan roller 1 has means whereby suction can be applied to a selected portion of the roller and interconnected ports 14, 15 so arranged that during rotation of the roller, portions of the periphery of the roller on opposite sides of the portion to which suction is applied are interconnected, whereby when the roller is rotated in contact with a web, suction in the portion of the periphery of the roller where the web is about to leave the roller is communicated to the portion of the periphery of the roller where the web has just engaged the roller. As shown, the ports 14 and 15 are connected by holes 16, 17 drilled in the housing 3 and closed by screws 18 and 19. The roller 1 has an outer sleeve 4 mounted on an inner portion 5 having angularly-spaced grooves 6 which communicate with an arcuate port 12 connected to a vacuum source during rotation of the roller. The roller is axially adjustable with respect to the housing 3 by a screwed sleeve 29.
