Abstract

890,507. Screw pumps. STOTHERT & PITT Ltd. Jan. 19, 1959 [Jan. 24, 1958], No. 2512/58. Classes 110 (1) and 110 (2). Each rotor 2, 3, of a constant-speed pump, has a thread which varies along its axial length, and an axially-movable housing member 4, the position of which affects the displacement of the pump. The member 4 may be actuated manually or automatically, and may have spring-return means. It may move in response to back-pressure from an outlet D. Fig. 4 shows a pump with a common suction chamber S and two outlets D. These ports may be reversed. The member 4 may be stationary and the screws moved axially. According to the Provisional Specification, the pump may comprise a single screw.
