931,770. Magnetic recording &c. heads. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH Ltd. Nov. 25, 1960 [Nov. 26, 1959], No. 40242/59. Class 40 (2). [Also in Group XXII] A method of assembling a magnetic head, particularly a head constructed as in Specification 899,138, comprises mounting coils 18 on similar halves 15, 16 of a ferrite core, disposing the core halves in a depression 19 in a mounting plate 11 so that they are in contact at one end and at the other end engage opposite faces of a non-magnetic shim 22 and then passing a magnetic flux through the core to cause the two halves to clamp the shim tightly while an encapsulating resin filling the depression and encasing the core is cured to form a rigid solid. A magnet 25 and jig-mounted polepieces 27 or a disc-magnet (Fig. 3, not shown), engaging the core legs provide a clamping field, which may be supplemented by spring means as in the Specification referred to.
