960,423. Locating magnetic bodies. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 12, 1960 [Aug. 17, 1959], No. 27998/60. Heading G1N. An electromagnetic measuring coil, for detecting the movement of a ferromagnetic body, has a gapped magnetic circuit which includes a ferromagnetic core and a flat pole plate of ceramic magnetic material provided on each of the two or more end faces of the yoke, the plates lying in a common plane and being magnetised in a direction perpendicular to that plane, adjacent plates being of opposite polarity. Coil 1 is wound on core 2 of E-shaped laminations mounted in the brass tube 4 which has a screw-on head 12 sealed to be water and oil-tight. A damping resistor 9 is connected across the supply cable 10, and the ceramic pole plates 3 are secured to the core end faces by adhesive.
