A gas burner providing infra-red heat comprises a mixing chamber 31, having an outlet covered by a wire gauze 30 and a cellular partition 34 in contact with the wire gauze. Notches 36 are formed in the lower edges of the partition to facilitate the propagation of the ignition flame. The wall surrounding the partition is thermally isolated. The mixture is supplied by a gas injector 33 and an adjustable air inlet 32. One of the elements of the partition may be made of silver.
