961,271. Gas burners. A. E. BOULET. Feb. 19, 1963 [Feb. 22, 1962], No. 6600/63. Addition to 930,603. Heading F4T. A gas burner for flameless combustion comprises a mixing chamber having an outlet covered by a curved wire gauze 39 and a curved lattice 43 in contact with the wire gauze. The lattice is formed by slotted longitudinal and transverse strips and defines square cells which communicate through notches 59 in the cell walls. In making the burner a flat wire gauze is spot welded to a rectangular frame 35 with a flat lattice placed between the wire gauze and a flange 38 of the frame. The frame is then secured to the outlet of the mixing chamber and the burner lit. When the gauze and lattice have reached the working temperature, pressure is exerted on the external face of the lattice to impart curvature both in the longitudinal and transverse direction to the gauze and lattice. The gas is supplied by a nozzle directed into a neck provided with two apertures for the entry of air. The neck leads to a widening part connected to the mixing chamber and containing a turbulence screw for adjusting the air entrainment. In another embodiment the air inlet apertures are covered by a movable sleeve. The central longitudinal line of the gauze may be supported on a rib on the burner head, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown).
