Abstract

925,432. Pipe-laying devices. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. July 10, 1961 [July 19, 1960], No. 24961/61. Class 99(2). [Also in Group XXXVI] A device for laying or raising a submarine pipe comprises a floating drum 1 in which a pipe 4 is coiled and rotatable around a vertical axis, and a dome 7 supported by the drum in such a manner that the drum may rotate in relation to the dome. There are means for towing the dome to prevent the dome from rotating, and members, such as propellers or fins 12, placed on the periphery of the drum cause or check rotation thereof in relation to the dome. As shown, the cable 4 is coiled on a platform 3 within the drum and the upper edge of the drum carries a rail 5 on which run rollers 6 mounted on the dome and integral with which are toothed rollers 10 engaging a circular rack 9 and driven by a mechanical or electrical device 11. A track 16 through which the cable passes co-operates with the rollers 10, and the cable passes over an articulated track 19 fixed to the dome and carrying floats 23 of variable buoyancy; the curvature of the track is variable.
