917,610. Root-crop harvesters. TIMMIS, J. Nov. 29, 1961 [Nov. 29, 1960], No. 40908/60. Class 6(3). A root-crop harvester comprises share 12, and an endless band conveyer 40 feeding the crop and soil to a riddling conveyer consisting of endless chains connected by cross bars 58 and is characterized in that the conveyer 40 has a horizontal part above which a rotary drum 46 is supported by arms 43 adapted to pivot about an axis 23, the drum having a resilient surface which bears on the crop and soil and is arranged to crumble the soil without damaging the crop. The riddling conveyer has some raised slats for carrying the crop upwardly and the conveyer is arranged to be moved slowly upwardly and then to drop quickly by means of a cam 61. Springs 65 control the drop of the riddle. From the riddle the crop is delivered on to a cushioned plate 70 which deposits it on an elevator 71. The speed of the band conveyer 40 is four times that of the machine speed and the rotary drum is driven at a speed twice that of the conveyer 40. Specification 664,522 is referred to.
