[Also in Group II] A tractor-drawn harvester for roots and the like comprises an elevating conveyer 15, supplying a feeding conveyer 16, which lies within the circuit of the conveyer 15 and across its path. The harvester has root-lifting apparatus 112 comprising a blade 13 with raising and lowering mechanism 14. Haulms or plant tops conveyed from the blade 13 are removed by a mechainism 137, e.g. as described in Specification 670,706, the roots or tubers being then carried up by the endless conveyer 15 tines 31 of which project during part of their upward passage into a guide way 32 having an outlet 33 for discharging the roots on to the conveyer 16. This conveyer delivers material past a resilient baffle 34 to an inclined plate 35 associated with a rotating roller 36 leading to a transverse separating conveyer 17. The roots pass across the conveyer 17 on to a conveyer 18 and thereby to a discharging conveyer 20, and the separated earth is carried by the conveyer 17 to a conveyer 19 and thereby to a shoot 21. Drive is taken from the tractor via a shaft 46 to a gear-box 48 from which chain drives 49, 50, 51 extend to the conveyers 18, 19, and 16 respectively. The roller 36 is driven through intermediate gearing, including that of the conveyer 16, from the chain drive 51. A chain drive 54 from the gear-box 48 drives the conveyer of the lifting apparatus 112 and the mechanism 137 ; and a shaft 55 carries drive to the conveyers 15, 17 and 20 from shaft 46 through a chain 56.
