907,411. Cycle chain-guards. ATELIERS DE LA MOTOBECANE. Dec. 23, 1960 [Dec. 24, 1959], No. 44310/60. Class 136(1). A device for protecting the driving chain of a motor-assisted cycle or similar vehicle which has the pulley 4 of a reduction gear coaxial with a pedal shaft 2 comprises a chain-case A-B-C-D, whose protective area is supplemented by the pulley 4 and a plate 12 forming part of a brake on the rear axle 3. The axle 3 is mounted in forks 9 and 10 which are pivoted to the cycle frame at 11 near the shaft 2. The case part A surrounds the shaft 2 at 13. The inside and outside parts B and D are bolted together peripherally and are mounted on the fork 10 by encircling loops (not shown). The parts B and D are shaped and slotted in the regions 19 and 18 to accommodate the forks 9 and 10 respectively. The part C is semi-circular and has longitudinal slots 22 in its outer face through which it is bolted to holes 23 in the parts of the plate 12 which are shown by dotted line in Fig. 3. At the front end of the plate 12 forked lugs 25 receive a brake abutment stop 26 which is carried on the fork 10. The lengths of the slots at 22 and of that between the lugs 25 are sufficient to allow the axle 3 to be moved forward for disengaging the chain 6 when it is desired to remove the wheel 8. If the wheel 8 is not sprung the pivot 11 may be omitted and the chaincase formed of three parts AB, C and D only, play for movement being allowed at 13 where the part AB surrounds the shaft 2 (Fig. 10, not shown).
