Abstract

590,649. Cycles. ESTEVEZ, N. A. R. July 1, 1944, No. 12575. [Classes 136 (i) and 136 (iii)] A pedal-operated cycle comprises a pair of stiffened plate-like metal members 1 side by side and spaced apart and arranged to support between them the chain drive to the rear wheel in such a manner that the crank axis is considerably nearer to the rear wheel than it is to the front wheel. Lightening holes as shown may be provided in the plate members. The crank axle carries a ratchet wheel which moves freely past a link when the pedals are being rotated forwardly but on pedalling backwards the ratchet wheel engages the link and applies the rear wheel brake. The front forks comprise a pair of pressed plate members 19. Accessories such as pump spanners &c. may be mounted in the space - between the plate-like frame members.
