Abstract

900,029. Root-crop harvesters. BRUCE, J. M. July 8, 1960, No. 23898/60. Class 6(3). Relates to a harvester for turnips or beets wherein the crop is topped and tailed by a series of power-driven disc-coulters at different levels. According to the invention an attachment is mounted adjacent to the rearmost disc-coulter 4 comprising an open steel framework 1, 2 inclined upwardly and rearwardly and over which sweep tines 12 carried by a pair of endless chains 10, 11 the crop being delivered to a fixed gridded basket 17 through which pass other gridded baskets 18 carried by an elevator 26 which delivers the crop to a vehicle alongside. The chains 10, 11 pass around sets of sprockets 6-9 of which one in each set is driven by a jointed shaft 15, 19, from gearing 21 on the main frame.
