A binding device for suspension filing systems comprises a flat bar having projecting from one edge thereof a plate incorporating a hook, said plate being adapted to be threaded through . a slit in the spine of a folder, and means on said bar for binding papers thereto. The flat bar 10 having a slotted plate 11 riveted thereto, or formed integrally therewith, is riveted to a folder with the plate 11 projecting through a slit in the spine thereof, whereby the folder may be suspended from a rail. Papers are bound to the bar 10 by means of a flexible tubular lace 19 of synthetic resinous material, which is threaded through holes in - the bar and in cleating means 24, and is closed at its ends by means of a U-shaped bridge 21. The cleating means and papers are compressed against ,the bar 10 and held in position, by parsing the lacing- under tongues formed in one edge of the cleating means. The inside bearing surface of the hook 12 may be curved or rectangular in form, and in the latter case adapted to fit over a rail of rectangular cross-section without rocking thereon. The folder may be suspended in a tilted fashion, to facilitate reading of an index tab thereon, by locating the projecting plate 11 off-centre with respect to the bar 10, or in the case of the rectangular slot, by rotating the rail of rectangular cross-section to the desired position. One end of the bar 10 is formed with a short limb 33 at right angles thereto, to which an index tab may be applied.
