A folder or index card adapted to be suspended from a single suspension rail has a strip a<SP>1</SP> secured to an upper edge to form a pocket and a reinforcing strip b glued or cemented in the pocket with its outer edge substantially level with the upper edge of the folder to protect the latter against wear, recesses c and a hook d being punched in the upper edge after assembly. The reinforcing strip is formed from plastic material, metal, or wood. The suspension rail is formed from sheet metal and is shaped to provide a supporting surface adapted to be engaged by the hook d and an edge portion to engage the smaller recess c. In the case of a folder suspended spine downwards, one or both of the upper edges may be reinforced as described above. If the folder is suspended from one edge only, fastening means are provided to maintain the folder closed.
