A retractable ball-point peri comprises a push-button for projecting the writing unit, the push-button including a locking member movable in relation to the remainder of the push-button and having an inclined cam surface engaged by the rear end of the writing- unit which is spring-biased rearwards, so that when the push-button is depressed a projection on the locking member is urged laterally to engage an abutment at the inner wall of the casing and hold the unit in its projected position. As shown in Fig. 3, the rear end of the barrel 1 is closed by a cap 6 having a central bore in which a hollow, cylindrical push-button 4 is slidable. The push-button has an annular flange 4<SP>111</SP> at its inner end which abuts against the inner end of the cap 6 when the writing unit 2 is in retracted position. The push-button is slotted at 4<SP>1</SP> and 4<SP>11</SP> and carries an S-shaped locking member 5 in its interior. When the push-button is depressed the projections 9", 10<SP>11</SP> engage under the shoulder 8<SP>1</SP> and hold the writing unit projected. The rear ends of the parts 9, 10 are squeezed together to disengage the projections from the shoulder 8<SP>1</SP>.
