Abstract

863,727. Pyrotechnic apparatus. SCHERMULY PISTOL ROCKET APPARATUS Ltd. Oct. 20, 1959 [Dec. 10, 1958], No. 39786/58. Class 9(2). A combined pyrotechnic device and discharger, and a support member therefore, comprise a tubular casing 1, closed at one end by a light alloy plug 2 and at its other end by a removable sheet metal disc 3, a light alloy tubular container 8, slidably received in the casing, and a threaded tube 32, on a baseplate 33, to which a threaded flanged collar 34, that clamps an enlarged portion 31 of the casing, is screwed. A propellent charge 7 is positioned in the casing 1, e.g. in the plug 2, to eject the container, and a second charge 16 in the container to eject the pyrotechnic device, e.g. a parachute flare 25, 14. In operation, an electrical igniter 4 in the plug 2 ignites the charge 7 and also a flare 12 in the container, which initiates the charge 16 after a delay period. The electrical firing device comprises a tubular support 35, housing a cadmium-plated contact pin 37 thrust against the igniter 4 by a spring 39, and extending through an insulating plug 36 and an insulating bushing 40 in the plate 33. A plurality of dischargers can be mounted on the same baseplate, the conductors 37 for the electrical firing being connected to a plug and socket connector (not shown). Other means may be used to secure the casing to the baseplate. The baseplate may be mounted on a frame, Fig. 3 (not shown), which also comprises a clamp for mounting on a tubular support, e.g. a structural member of a helicopter.
