Abstract

The base comprises a cylindrical surround (1) on a base (12) which supports the electric ignition system (14,15). A coil spring (16) is fixed on to the base to stand up in the middle of the cylinder. A shell casing which is to be fitted into this base has a circular groove cut around its surface near to the base. The surround has a hole through it to receive a peg (24) which has an obliquely cut inwardly facing surface. The lower edge of this surface fits into the groove which surrounds the bottom of the shell casing. The arrangement allows a shell to be inserted or removed single handed.
