Abstract

A protection device for an airship against attack by a missile, employs a canister with an ignition charge which burns with a radiation within the infra red range. The canister has a cylindrical casing with a plug each end to retain the contents and with a spindle through the centre holding them together. This spindle is broken at the centre by the force of ignition of the charge, to release the contents. The joint at the point of rupture can be a section of reduced dia. Alternatively, one part of the spindle can be shouldered down and fit between the arms of the forked end of the other part, with a pin through the joint. The ignition of the charge then forces the plugs outwarts.
