Abstract

591,500. Rocket dischargers. SCHERMULY, C. D., SCHERMULY, A. J., and SCHERMULY, C. Nov. 30, 1944, No. 23917. [Class 9 (ii)] A discharger for a rocket comprises a casing 4 having igniting means 7 at the lower end and a plug 14 closing the upper end. In Fig. 1, the plug 14 and packing 15 close the upper end of the casing and a plug 5 closing the lower end carries the igniter 7 for an explosive charge in a recess 6 which on ignition is adapted to force the rocket 1 upwards and eject the plug 14 and simultaneously the flash ignites the rocket propellant. Before discharge, a cap 18 is removed and an electrical plug 10 inserted in plug 5 to provide a current circuit for the igniter and the device is stood on the ground. In a modification, Fig. 3, the device is supported in a ring 20 and on a bracket 21 carried by an upright 19 adapted to be pushed in the ground or screwed to a support and which may also carry an electric battery to supply current for the igniter.
