861,023. Spring wheels. SOC. D'ETUDES ET DE RECHERCHES INDUSTRIELLES, SOTREMA. July 30,1957 [Aug. 8,1956; Feb. 18, 1957], No. 24067/57. Class 144 (1). A road roller wheel essentially having a heavy metallic tyre 1 comprises a hub 2 having a radial flange 6 from which project a number of equi-angularly spaced lugs 11 extending axially of, and radially beyond the flange to lie, respectively, between pairs of similar lugs 13 extending axially of, and radially inwardly from, a radial tyre carrying rim or flange 9, each lug 11 being connected to its associated pair of lugs 13 by a pair of rubber blocks 3, whereby load stresses exerted radially of the wheel directly along each lug 11 subject the associated pair of rubber blocks 3 wholly to shear stresses, and pure driving or braking-torque subjects the blocks 3 solely to compression and tension stresses. As shown, each block 3 is faced with metal plates 12 whereby it is bolted to its associated lugs 11, 13.
