Abstract

860,716. Centrifugal fans. MASSEY-FERGUSON (AUSTRALIA) Ltd. Sept. 16, 1957 [Sept. 17, 1956], No. 29024/57. Class 110 (1). A winnowing fan for a combine harvester comprises two or more impellers 13 mounted on a common shaft and each enclosed in a separate casing 10 which has an inlet opening at each end. To avoid drawing chaff and other airborne material into the inlet openings, the casings 10 are enclosed in an outer casing' 21 which is provided with one inlet duct or, as shown, two inlet ducts 27, 28 extending upwardly to a height at which the entering air is substantially free of airborne material. The driving belt 32 passes through the duct 27. The casings 10 have a common discharge duct 18, the two separate discharge streams merging into a single stream downstream of a pair of converging partition walls 19. Each discharge stream is subdivided by adjustable guide plates 15. Preferably, access to the impellers is provided by a detachable cover-plate 26.
