Abstract

916,141. Cigarette - making machines. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. March 20, 1959 [March 21, 1958], No. 9091/58. Class 130. In means for forming a tobacco filler by conveying tobacco particles in an air stream through a passage 12, Fig. 3, on to a conveyer band 20, a portion of the air stream is drawn off through a side opening 33. The tobacco particles, thrown off a card drum 1, Fig. 1, by a picker wheel 3, are deflected towards the passage 12 by a perforated suction drum 7 connected through a dust separator 44 to a fan 43. A high velocity air stream is set up in passage 12 by a suction box 25 situated above the perforated band 20 and connected to fan 41 and by a suction box 32, Fig. 3, connected to the side opening 33 which is covered by a grill with rearwardly sloping openings 34. The outlet of the fan 43 discharges into a diffuser chamber 48 from which the air escapes through a perforated grill 50 back towards the passage 12. The outlet of fan 41 passes through a dust separator 55 and cyclone separator 53 to atmosphere, some of the separated dust being fed through a pipe 56 into the chamber below band 20. In a modification, Fig. 5, the air stream feeds the tobacco downwardly on to an unperforated conveyer band 74, all of the air escaping through side openings 75 to a suction chamber 76. The band 74 may alternatively be perforated and a suction chamber provided beneath the band in addition to suction chamber 76. Specifications 764,551, 854,736, 895,733 and 909,222 are referred to.
