Abstract
728,883. Picking-up leaves. MILLER, O. C. Sept. 1, 1953, No. 24204/53. Class 6 (2). A device for picking up leaves from lawns comprises a manually-pushed frame 10 carrying a motor M which drives a shaft 16 on which are mounted the blades 17 of a centrifugal fan co-operating with a concentric perforated cylinder 33, to pulverise leaves sucked into the fan through a leaf duct 30, and to discharge the cuttings into a volute casing 24 surrounding the fan whence they are blown out through a tangential orifice 36. The frame is mounted on land-wheels 12 and the leaf-duct, which is flared transversely, at its lower end, carries wheels 34 which maintain this end at a suitable spacing from the ground. The cylinder 33 may be of expanded metal with end-rings to impart rigidity and to locate it within the casing 24. The orifice 36 carries an adjustable hood 37 to regulate the direction of discharge of the cuttings. A lawn-mower of conventional type may be mounted between the land-wheels 12 and driven thereby.
