Abstract

856,171. Two-part couplings. BRITISH THOMSON HOUSTON CO. Ltd. June 30, 1959 [July 25, 1958], No. 24050/58. Class 38(1) A self-locking cable connector 1 for screwing on to a terminal stud 2 projecting from a panel 3 comprises a body 7 with a through hole threaded at 8, a cable ferrule 10 connected at one end to a cable 4 and having an enlarged head 11 at the other end, a threaded collar 14 rotatably carried on the ferrule between the head 11 and an abutment face constituted by spring washer or fastener 13 mounted on the ferrule 10, and spring means such as a resilient washer 15 mounted on the ferrule between the head 11 and the collar 14 so as to bias the collar against the abutment face, the ferrule being mounted within the body 7 and retained therein by screwing the collar into the hole. The body 7 may be of insulating material or may be of metal encased in insulating material and the stud 2 may be shrouded as at 16. The abutment for the collar 14 may be a shoulder formed on the ferrule 10. When the connector is screwed on to the stud 2 the head 11 is forced against the end 12 of the stud compressing the washer 15 which exerts a thrust against the collar 14 and produces a selflocking action.
