Abstract

[Also in Groups XXII and XXV] A screw device comprises a strip of metal formed with an axial twist therein, and the twist terminates in an outwardly projecting shoulder portion. As shown, a connector tag stamped from a sheet or strip of brass has, adjacent a pair of abutments 4, a tapered portion 2 twisted axially through 180 degrees to form a simple screw thread 5. To secure the tag to a base, e.g. to a printed circuit board 6, a hole 7 is drilled in the board within which the largest part of the tapered portion 2 is a tight fit. The portion 2 is then pressed into the hole and turned relative thereto, the thread 5 cutting a corresponding thread in the board and drawing the tag into the board until the abutments 4 engage the board's surface. The abutments bite into the board and resist any tendency for the tag to unscrew. The parallel-sided portion 3 of the tag may be notched, perforated or hooked, or formed as a plug or socket.
