Abstract

851,366. Heating feedwater. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 4, 1958 [July 8, 1957], No. 21590/57. Class 64(1) [Also in Group XXVI] A high pressure turbine section 1 discharges through a reheater 5 to a turbine section 2 which consists of intermediate and low pressure turbines. On their common shaft 3 (driving an alternator 4) is an additional turbine 6 fed with steam tapped from the turbine 1. Ancillary apparatus such as feed water heaters 9, 10 are fed with steam tapped from the turbines 1, 6. A balance connection 12 is provided between the exhaust of the turbine 6 and an inlet on the turbine section 2. In a modification the turbine 6 is mounted on a separate shaft driving the boiler feed pump. A control valve at the inlet of the turbine 6 may be operated by a feed water regulator. The turbine sections may comprise one or more separate turbines. The invention is also applicable to steam turbine power plants having multiple reheat, an additional turbine section being provided to by-pass one or more of the reheaters with one or more connections for bled steam.
