Abstract
994,766. Steam turbines. SULZER BROS. Ltd. Feb. 10, 1964 [March 1, 1963], No. 5504/64. Heading FIT. A steam turbine plant includes at least one reheater, an auxiliary turbine, another turbine downstream of the reheater, means for supplying the auxiliary turbine with steam bled from the other turbine, and pipes for supplying the auxiliary turbine with mixed steam from upstream of and downstream of the reheater, at least one of the pipes having an adjustable valve. A steam turbine plant comprises a boiler 35 supplying superheated steam to high and low pressure turbines 37, 38 driving a generator 40. An auxiliary turbine 1 drives a pump 30 supplying feedwater from a tank 31 through preheaters 32, 33, 34 to the boiler 35. At full power turbine load auxiliary turbine 1 is supplied with bled steam from L.P. turbine 38 through a non-return valve 3 and a valve 5 controlled by a servomotor 8 in dependence upon the pressure drop across the feed valve 6. A small quantity of preheating steam also flows to auxiliary turbine 1 from tappings 10, 11 upstream and downstream respectively of the interstage reheater 14 and through substantially closed valves 12, 13. If the power turbine load drops the bleed stream pressure in lines 2, 23 falls and a pressure controller 19 transmits a signal to servomotor 16 to open valves 12, 13 so that the auxiliary turbine steam is wholly supplied through pipes 10, 11. The temperature of this steam is controlled by a servomotor 17 acting on valves 12, 13 through an arm 15 in response to a signal from a controller 20. Controller 20 receives a signal from a unit 24 corresponding to whichever is the higher of the temperature values in the bleed line 23 or as set by a unit 25.
