[Also in Group XVI] A mechanism for reciprocating a rotating roller 1, for example, the inking roller of a printing-machine, comprises a sleeve member 12 journalled on an inclined pin 13 and coupled for rotation with a follower 10 on a gear 9. The gear 9 is axially fixed relative to the shaft 2 of roller 1 but rotatable thereon through a train of gears 3-8. The pin 13 is inclined to the axis of a rotatable adjusting-member 14, the axis of which is also inclined to that of the shaft 2, so that the amount of reciprocation imparted to the roller 1 can be varied down to zero.
