Abstract

791,945. Manually-actuated valves. AVERY, Ltd., W. & T. Dec. 19, 1955 [Dec. 17, 1954], No. 36541/54. Class 135. In a needle valve, the valve needle 2 is freely rotatably mounted within an inner sleeve 9 in screw-threaded engagement with an outer sleeve 10 itself rotatable in a course screw thread in a sleeve 11 fixed to a part 12 rigid with the valve casing 6, the sleeves 9, 10 being separately operated by manually-operated parts 8, 13 respectively to give fine and coarse adjustment of the needle. The needle 2 is adjustably secured by nuts 14 in an antifriction bearing 7 mounted in a knob 8 on the inner sleeve 9 by means of a removable screw cap 8a. The sleeve 10 is operated by a hand wheel 13 and carries a dial 16 co-operating with a fixed pointer (not shown). Rotation of the sleeve 10 is limited to one revolution by a stud 17 co-operating with a fixed stop (not shown). Removal of the stud 17 permits withdrawal of the needle and sleeves 9, 10 as a unit. An inset washer 15 limits outward movement of the sleeve 9. The needle is guided in a block 1 provided with seals 4, 5.
