Abstract
A dry fire-extinguishing powder for extinguishing open flame and smouldering fires contains a bicarbonate and / or carbonate together with an organic, nitrogenous resinous polymeride which forms a foaming crust when exposed to heat, or a reaction product of said resinous polymeride with orthophosphoric acid or metaphosphoric acid. The powder may contain from 15-50% of the polymeride or reaction product thereof with orthophosphoric or metaphosphoric acid. In three examples, the additives comprise respectively, a condensation product of cyanamide with formaldehyde, a condensation product of guanidine with formaldehyde converted with metaphosphoric acid and a polyamide or a polyurethane. Preferably at least 50% of the salts consist of well formed individual salt crystals, and the granular components of the powder have a granular size of less than 0,06 m.m. The powder also may contain a water-repellant agent such as stearic acid or its metal salts.
